NASA on Nibiru

I’ve copied a selection directly from the web site of Dr. David Morrison, Director of the NASA Lunar Science Institute on Nibiru and 2012. This is a great site for the scientific answers to many questions posed about various hoaxes attributed to NASA.

    18. Can you prove to me that Nibiru is a hoax? There are so many reports that something terrible will happen in 2012. I need proof because the government and NASA are keeping so much from us.

Such questions should be put to the doomsday advocates to prove that what they are saying is true, not to NASA to prove it is false. If someone claimed on the Internet that there were 50-foot tall purple elephants walking through Cleveland, would anyone expect NASA to prove this wrong? The burden of proof falls on those who make wild claims. Remember the often-quoted comment from Carl Sagan that extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

However, I think that astronomers have reached the point where we can offer extremely strong arguments that Nibiru does not exist. A large planet (or a brown dwarf) in our solar system would have been known to astronomers for many years, both indirectly from its gravitational perturbations on other objects and by direct detection in the infrared. The NASA Infrared Astronomy Satellite (IRAS) carried out the first allsky survey in 1983, and several subsequent surveys would also have seen Nibiru if it were there. Further, if a large mass passed through the inner solar system every 3600 years, we would see its disruptive effects on the orbits of the inner planets, and we don’t.

Will we be saved from the 2012 Effect?

Here’s a link to an entertaining forum on the 2012 cataclysm. A member of the forum says they’re watching the “Nostradamus Effect” on the History Channel. The program says that as a result of the 2012 Extinction (that’s a cool name to call it!) 98% of humanity will be wiped out!

One of the participants suggests that an intriguing solution! Here’s the link to MMO Champion’s 2012 Cataclysm.

Ghosts in a California coffee and wine shop

There have been so many strange going-ons at Bent … on Coffee and Wine that paranormal investigators Pacific Coast Paranormal were called in to this Conejo Valley California shop.

A door that has to be locked to hold it shut keeps popping opened, a nickel fell from the ceiling, employees feel breathing on the back of their necks, lights go on and off, doorknobs rattle, and floorboards squeak. Scariest of all, a refrigerator moved three feet to block the back exit!

The paranormal investigation turned up the silhouette of a man dressed in a 1880s style overcoat. Psychic Nelson has named him William. He’s a 30-something young man who appears to be enthralled with the waitresses at Bent on … Coffee and Wine. There’s also another ghost named Walter, a patron who died more recently.

2012 Prophecy: Ancient Maya instructed by aliens from Orion and Pleiades

According to Who Will Survive 2012:

“* The book 2012: Mayan Year of Destiny claims the Maya may have been instructed in their wisdom by disembodied entities from Orion and the Pleiades. Contact was maintained through shamanic rituals conducted in accordance with the movements of planets and stars. However, some Mayan priests living and working in Guatemala assert that there is no legitimacy to this theory.”

The above excerpt is one of a long list of 2012 prophecy information found on the Will You Survive 2012 website.

Significant Mayan ruin in danger of being lost

El Mirador, a Mayan ruin located in the north of present-day Guatemala’s El Peten region, is in danger of being lost to modern development. A road bringing logging equipment in to harvest the surrounding forest is running roughshod over ruins. In addition, looters remove ancient Mayan artifacts for big profit. El Mirador is especially significant because it harbors evidence of settlement far into the past … as long ago as the 6th century BCE according to the Wikipedia article El Mirador.

For me, any especially ancient pre-Columbian Mayan ruin could be a site visited by Atlanteans in our far distant past.
