Ice Ages, Earth’s varying temperature and CO2 levels

Take a look at the “Earth’s rise and fall of temperature and CO2” graph on the right. It shows temperature variations in degrees Celsius of the earth from the present to over 400,000 years ago.

While gathering data for the End of the World 2012 Movie, Book, and EBook, I researched previous end of the world scenarios, such as the Ice Ages.

What impresses me with this graph is that, even though there is concern were are in a Global Warming phase, the earth has actually been warmer than it is today.

In addition, it has been much, much colder than it is today.

There is a temperature variation from warmest to coolest of about 12 degrees Celsius. That’s a lot.

I’m not saying we shouldn’t be concerned with the environment. I’m only wondering how much our present temperature changes are part of the normal cycle of changes on earth.

The graphs look as if extreme climate change are inevitable, of course, over hundreds of thousands of years.

My conclusion is to be happy for each day as it comes.

Higher dust levels are believed to be caused by cold, dry periods. The Earth’s orbital eccentricity, tilt, and precession vary in a pattern over thousands of years. The IPCC notes that Milankovitch cycles drove the ice age cycles; CO₂ followed temperature change “with a lag of some hundreds of years” (visible on a graph more zoomed in than this); and that as a feedback amplified temperature change. Among other factors, CO₂ is more soluble in colder than in warmer waters.

Are the Magnetic Poles about to shift?

I’ve been looking at information on the possibility of a shift in the magnetic poles. Some of the information appears in the End of the World 2012 Movie, Book, and EBook.

An online Reuters article says:

The only thing stopping Earth having a lifeless environment like Mars is the magnetic field that shields us from deadly solar radiation and helps some animals migrate, and it may be a lot more fragile and febrile than one might think.

Scientists say earth’s magnetic field is weakening and could all but disappear in as little as 500 years as a precursor to flipping upside down.

The rest of the article gets pretty scary, because it says that scientific studies have shown that the earth’s magnetic field reverses itself approximately every 250,000 years. BUT, it’s been over 800,000 since the last shift in the magnetic poles. Eek! We’re 550,000 years overdue for a flip in the magnetic poles!

Evidently, a shift in the magnetic field can make a planet vulnerable to losing its atmosphere. Scientists believe that Mars lost its atmosphere billions of years ago when the red planet’s magnetic field reversed and the solar wind blew the atmosphere off of Mars. Without an atmosphere, any life that may have been on Mars perished.

During the time the magnetic field is reversing, a planet’s atmosphere is not as tightly held to the planet and could be blown away by the solar wind.

As earth’s magnetic poles become more unstable–magnetic north has moved over 1500 kilometers in the last century–the magnetic field around the earth is weakening.

The article gets really scary when it says that at the rate things are going, earth’s magnetic field could become so weak as to be non-existent in 500 years and the magnetic poles could flip. At that time, would the solar wind blow away our atmosphere leading to the demise of dear old planet Earth?

Yes, I know 500 years isn’t in our lifetime. However, in earth time, it is a very short time away.

The story of the Yellowstone mega volcano brings to mind end of the world scenarios.

Will Yellowstone have a major eruption again in our lifetimes? If so, it could lead to an end of the world scenario.

In making the End of the World 2012 Movie and writing the End of the World 2012 EBook and Book, I contemplate previous end of the world scenarios and wonder if there will be future ones.

In the diagram of the Yellowstone Caldera on the right, it looks as if the Geysers of Yellowstone are inside the huge Yellowstone Caldera. If so, this caldera is huge. Is that how it looks to you?

The Yellowstone Caldera is the volcanic caldera located in Yellowstone National Park in the United States, sometimes referred to as the Yellowstone Supervolcano. The caldera is located in the northwest corner of Wyoming, in which the vast majority of the park is contained. The major features of the caldera measure about 34 by 45 miles (55 by 72 km).^[3]

Chicxulub, Yucatan, appears in the End of the World 2012 Movie, Kindle, and Book

Chicxulub, presently a sleepy fishing village in Yucatan, makes an appearance in the End of the World 2012 Movie, Kindle EBook, and book. It is the site where, 65 million years ago, a  six-mile-wide meteor hit the earth leading to the extinction of the dinosaurs.

Chixculub appears in the End of the World 2012 series it that part of the movie/book in which we examine if the world can really end. What do you think? Can the world really end?

The crater is more than 180 km (110 mi) in diameter, making the feature one of the largest confirmed impact structures on Earth; the impacting bolide that formed the crater was at least 10 km (6 mi) in diameter.

Mayan glyphs do NOT have a Rosetta Stone

We could have benefited from a Rosetta Stone in deciphering the Mayan glyphs. Even today, after decades of deciphering the ancient glyphs, Maya scholars are still learning how to understand many of the texts. In my humble opinion, the Mayan glyphs are unlike any other writing on earth. No wonder they are so difficult to decipher.

If they had been deciphered earlier, perhaps much of the controversy over the Mayan prophecies for December 21, 2012 would have been clarified sooner.

Unfortunately, the Mayan glyphs do not have a Rosetta Stone as do the Egyptian hieroglyphics. It seemed as if the Egyptian hieroglyphics would never be deciphered until a chance discover by a French soldier in 1799 produced the Rosetta stone. It took 20 years after finding the Rosetta Stone to decipher the hieroglyphics.  Without it, Egyptian hieroglyphics may never have been deciphered.

The Rosetta Stone was discovered by a French soldier in 1799 at a time when it seemed as if the Egyptian hieroglyphics would undecipherable. Fortunately, the Rosetta Stone contained the same decree issued on behalf of King Ptolemy V in 196 BC in three languages: Ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs, Demotic script, and Ancient Greek. It provided the key to finally deciphering the Egyptian hieroglyphics.

Originally displayed within a temple, the stele was probably moved during the early Christian or medieval period and eventually used as building material in the construction of Fort Julien near the town of Rashid (Rosetta) in the Nile Delta. It was rediscovered there in 1799 by a soldier,Pierre-François Bouchard, of the French expedition to Egypt.

I’ve been putting together my Amazon author page for days, well, actually weeks. It contains posts from this blog, my tweets, my books (I can’t list movies though), a couple of photos of me. However, it looked as if the blog posts were not coming up. Therefore, I took a look at the page from an Amazon customer’s point of view (I’ve been working on it from the back end). Well, guess what! It’s gorgeous. Amazon does such a great job of putting these author pages together. I would have never known if I hadn’t looked at it from the front end! And, the blog posts are there. People are buying the End of the World 2012 EBook–Yay!

I’m so excited again, because I received posts on my Facebook page (Facebook.com/CarolChapman8) that a couple of people had bought my  End of the World 2012 Kindle Ebook.  That makes me feel soooo good, because I spent years videotaping the content for the End of the World 2012 movie and editing it, and interviewing people, and travelling in Yucatan, because I want people to know the truth about 2012. And then I worked hard some more and made the information in the movie into an ebook and a paperback book. There is so much misinformation out there! I didn’t go through all this trouble just to say, “Well, there, I did it.” I did it to communicate with others. This morning I received a Facebook post saying:

Hi Carol, just finished reading End of the World 2012 E Book. Really enjoyed it, interesting to get the correct facts about the Maya Long Calender. Thanks for a truthful perspective on 2012 !

The End of the World 2012 Movie, Book, and EBook Cover

I’m so excited, because my End of the World 2012 Movie, paperback book, and ebook Kindle are now available on Amazon.

I’ve worked long and diligently in making the movie, book, and ebook, starting with shooting footage in the Yucatan and interviewing Mayan shamans in 2009. Then, over the next couple of years interviewing experts on the Maya, the Mayan Calendar and the Mayan prophecies. And finally, I am happy that I was able to include recent discoveries in April and June 2012.

This has been a project that has meant a lot to me. In fact, I felt the information in the 2012 movie would be so helpful to others that I also made it into a book and an ebook Kindle by adding behind the scenes descriptions of the making the movie and more information about the people I interviewed.

Now, I’m looking forward to the movie, book, and ebook being of great help to people who are looking for the truth about 2012.

Megavolcano at Yellowstone may be spent

According to a Wikipedia article, the Megavolcano at Yellowstone  that extends over the state lines of Idaho and Wyoming in the United States may be through with exploding. An excerpt from the extensive article says:

The appearance of light magmas indicates that the uppermost portion of the continental crust has been consumed, …. In this case Yellowstone could be expiring. It could be another 1-2 million years before a new supervolcano is born to the northeast, and the Yellowstone Plateau volcanic field joins the ranks of its deceased ancestors in the Snake River Plain.

Now that my End of the World 2012 Movie is almost ready for distribution, I’m putting together a Kindle eBook version of the movie. In doing so, I looked up information about megavolcanoes and especially the megavolcano at Yellowstone.

In a previous post dated May 31, 2010, I had reported that Yellowstone usually erupts every 600,000 years. Since it’s been 640,000 years since it’s last eruption, it was due for another one at any time. However, the article quoted above is of the opinion that Yellowstone may be at the end of its megavolcanic activity. That sounds good to me.

I wanted to share this information with you, because you may have read, as I have, that, according to some sources, Yellowstone is overdue for a world-shaking megaexplosion. I like to find a balancing opinion.
