Musical Chairs in Mercury Retrograde
Here’s an entertaining true story that contains many of the elements of a typical Mercury Retrograde scenario: Travel, Communications, Delays, Frustrations and the need for Patience and a Sense of Humor.
My son, daughter-in-law, and their three-year-old daughter went to the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) on Saturday to renew Driver’s Licences (travel). When they got there, as was to be expected on a Saturday, the building was full of people. However, there was something wrong with the heating system of the building. It was so hot that everyone was sweating (frustrations). In an attempt to cool things down, the DMV employees had turned the ceiling fans on to high. The fans were turning so fast that the stifling hot building was full of wind causing people’s hair to blow in the breeze (need for a sense of humor).
On top of all that, the electronic message boards (communications) had gone on the fritz (delays and frustration). Normally, a person takes a number as they walk in the door and sits down to wait their turn on one of the chairs arranged in rows. When their number is displayed on the message board they go to one of six tellers, for example, the electronic message board will read, “Number 125 to Station D.” However, because the message boards were not working, to keep track of who was next in line, everyone had to sit in a certain order in their chairs. As the person at the head of the line was served, everyone moved to the next chair.
My daughter-in-law said that if someone went to the bathroom, you’d move along keeping that person’s chair empty (more need for a sense of humor). I’m sure this all took a lot of patience and a good sense of humor because it ended up taking up the whole morning instead of only one or two hours. Fortunately, my son and daughter-in-law brought toys and food for their little girl.
Can you imagine all these hot, sweaty people, fans whirring madly, hair whipping in their faces, and playing musical chairs!
They did get their drivers licenses renewed but it took much longer, was frustrating and required patience. That’s Mercury Retrograde.
