Coba is the Flavor of the Day

Today I made my shot list for Coba, an especially beautiful but also wild and wierd archeological site in the Yucatan Peninsula. I especially like the plethora of wild birds chirping and yodelling in the morning. With the camcorder filming, I was thrilled when a two to three foot tall brown speckled wading bird not only gave out three large squawks, but it also pooped and then flew away . . . all on camera. It is the Coba lakes that attract the tropical birds. Most of the land surface of Yucatan Peninsula is dry and without any rivers, streams or lakes. The inhabitants have to collect rainwater or haul water up from underground.

Atlantis and its Colony in Egypt Videotape

Today, I reviewed the videotape from my seminar in Lancaster, Pennsylvania in May of this year on Atlantis and its Colony in Egypt.

I had planned to make a DVD of this seminar, especially since a number of people have asked me for a copy. I expected to see poor visuals. However, the visuals looked pretty good. Since I spoke in a church, the background was lovely, with a stained glass window, plants, and a wooden lectern/altar.

However, the audio part of the video turned out to be a disappointment, as so often is the case with videotapes. Fortunately, I have purchased a wireless microphone that will plug into my camcorder. I will use it for the videotape of the same topic next weekend in Portland, Oregon. It should make a much better recording.

2012 Galactic Center Photo Yes! Video No!

After my great success making a digital photograph of the galactic center yesterday morning, I awoke this morning at 2:30 AM full of enthusiasm for making a videotape of the center of the Milky Way Galaxy. The galactic center is the place with which the earth will be lined up on the winter solstice, December 21, 2012. Many people believe this momentous event will herald great changes on earth.

Therefore, I wanted to photograph the galactic center which happens to be in the constellation of Sagittarius close to Scorpio. And I did.

However, when I woke up this morning and tried to take a videotape of the center of the Milky Way, I was not successful at all. As one of my amateur astronomer friends explained to me today, since the video camera shutter operates at 1/30th of a second, it is simply too fast to capture the night sky.

Yesterday, I had called my camera manufacturer and asked one of their technicians how to set the camcorder so it would videotape star constellations. The technician said it could NOT be done. I had to try anyway. I set the camcorder on “night” and gave it a try. As I said, it did not work. Now I know.
