Mayan Mythology, 2012, and the end of the world

A Live Science article by Benjamin Radford addresses the doomsday meaning of the end of the Mayan calendar on December 21 2012. Radford says that:

In fact, the link between global catastrophe and Mayan calendar-based prophecy is largely fiction. Ads for “2012” begin with the phrase, “The Mayans warned us,” though of course the Mayans did not “warn” anyone — they simply had a calendar system that happens to “end” in 2012, much as the way the Gregorian calendar on my office wall “ends” on Dec. 31.

How unusual! How delightful!

Following, please find a reference to the opinions of actual living Mayan priests in Guatemala on New Agers’ 2012 predictions which, according to this quote the priests call, “twaddle.” Read for yourself:

However, Mayan priests living and working in Guatemala aver that the so-called Mayan Prophecy for 2012, as touted by various foreign New Agers who have no knowledge of Mayan culture, language, or religion, is twaddle.

2012 Doomsday

I don’t know who the author of the article is or whether this quote is authentic. But, I enjoy including it as a balance for all the wild extravagant claims of either utopia or annihilation by numerous New Age authors.

“Twaddle” is a nice amusing word for taking the wind out of extravagant claims.

We are in the 2012 “Galactic Zone” Now!

According to Synthia Andrews and Colin Andrews, co-authors of The Complete Idiot’s Guide to 2012, John Major Jenkins does not proclaim December 21, 2012 as THE DATE when the Galactic Center lines up with the winter solstice. On the contrary, Jenkins evidently says that from 1994 to 2030 we are in the “Galactic Zone” – the time when our planet is aligned with the Galactic Center.

I am so happy because last night – actually between 4 and 5 AM – I finally got a photograph of the galactic center. It is so cool!!!

You can see Sagittarius and the tail of Scorpio right beside it. And, there, glowing quietly, the galactic center.

Amazing Time-Lapse Galactic Center Video

You are going to love this!

It is another link from my “2012, Edgar Cayce and the Maya” PowerPoint Presentation, as promised to the people in British Columbia who attended my seminar May 28th and June 4th. We were unable to connect to the internet at the event location, so here it is.

This time-lapse video was taken at the 2009 Texas Star Party on the night of April 21st and 22nd by William L. Castleman. The flashing red lights at the bottom right and left of the video are the red flashlights and red equipment lights necessary for maintaining night vision while viewing the stars. If regular white lights were used, a night sky phenomenon as dim as the Milky Way would not be visible to the naked eye.

2012, Edgar Cayce and the Maya Update

I’ve been updating my PowerPoint presentation of 2012, Edgar Cayce and the Maya to include information from my recent visits to the Yucatan; namely, the Chichen Itza Pyramid of Kukulcan Equinox Event and the Chichen Itza Mayan Elders Equinox Ceremony.

The presentation will also include my photographs of the Milky Way’s Galactic Center, because the Earth and Sun will be exactly lined up with the Galactic Center on December 21, 2012 for the first time in 25,625 years.

2012: No Doomsday in Sight!

Here’s an excerpt from a blogspot on 2012 that, I believe, comes from Russia or the Ukraine or one of the Slavic countries since many of the links are in Cyrillic Script.

What this means to me is that people in Russia, the Ukraine, or other Slavic countries are thinking about and aware of the 2012 Doomsday Prophecies.

Here’s the cute quote from Dr. Karl Kruszelnicki who appears to be a physics professor at the University of Sydney, Australia.

Australia!!! Wow! This 2012 prophecy stuff really get around!

OK, Here’s Dr. Karl:

“…when a calendar comes to the end of a cycle, it just rolls over into the next cycle. In our Western society, every year 31 December is followed, not by the End of the World, but by 1 January. So 13.0.0.0.0 in the Mayan calendar will be followed by 0.0.0.0.1 – or good-ol’ 22 December 2012, with only a few shopping days left to Christmas.” – Excerpt from Dr Karl’s “Great Moments in Science“.
